Description:

As Jesus continues commissioning His "apostlers", He reveals there are two crucial confessions in every Christian's life. First, the confession he or she makes before men concerning Christ, and second the confession Jesus makes before the Father on their behalf. In our passage this morning, Jesus makes it clear that one will not happen without the other-- His confession is predicated on our confession! For this reason it is essential we understand what is involved with "confessing Christ", and the "weal" (blessing) received if one does and the "woe" (curse) received if one does not. We will find it is a confession involving both "lips and life", and is an absolutely crucial part of the proclamation of the Kingdom. The eschatological, christological, and soteriological implications are profound-- for eternity rests on these two crucial confessions.
