Description:

With the stunning image of Nebuchadnezzar bowing before the God of Israel still in our minds we turn to the next great crisis for the Hebrews in Babylon. For we will discover just how short-lived the king's conviction that Yahweh was the "God of gods" was. He creates and erects a giant golden idol that he commands all officials and administrators to worship. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse, they are persecuted and called before the king where their lives are threatened. In an amazing display of faith and courage, the three friends refuse the king's command, electing to die if necessary rather than to defile their faith in God. We will discuss the entire concept of idolatry and how prevalent and dangerous it is even today. And then we will consider what we would do in the place of these three heroes, when our faith is tested as theirs was. Ultimately we will see how essential it is that each and every day as Christians we slay the dragons of idolatry that strive to corrupt and surplant our relationship with God.
